The 51st State
March 28th 2008 21:38
Oh if only it would really happen, but I know it won't. Imagine Long Island as the 51st state. I like it! Yet I know it will never happen.
You see living in Upstate New York, our taxes are high because of NY City and LI. Because of the tax average we pay more than we should because of these two areas of the state. They are the lands of the wealthy. Consider this from the article:
Sawicki said the region in 2004 sent $8.1 billion to Albany in taxes and fees but got back only $5.2 billion. "I don't know about you, but I don't like the way these numbers add up," he said. "It leaves Long Island paying for the rest of the state."
This politician is totally out of touch with the tax system, or is just getting people to rally around some pipe-dream to keep him in office. He doesn't realise that he would have to raise taxes to do what he claims Albany is doing now.
This is a true delusional politician who is out of touch of the situation. Oh wait, he's just a Comptroller, or a high priced accountant. Somehow he thinks he lives in Quebec, Canada!
