Rock-N-Roll Heaven
September 4th 2007 22:16
Taking a time-out on band and rock-n-roll reviews to comment on this article that just came out. It basically sums up the fact that rockers will die early. They attribute it to their partying lifestyle that involves a high consumption of drugs and alcohol.
The average age for North American rock stars is 42, while the European average is 35. It's described as a crash-and-burn lifestyle.
The study is so biased with so many variables that one has to wonder if there is any truth to it. It doesn't consider the mental health of the artist. Fame sometimes leads an artist to total solitude. Elvis was an example who had to lead a rather lonely life in the end.
The Kinks said it best in a song about actors. Celluloid Heroes may be about Hollywood and the fast pace of success but it highlights the price of fame.
And those who are successful,
Be always on your guard,
Success walks hand in hand with failure
Along hollywood boulevard.
Then again, if there is a rock-n-roll heaven, there must be a hell of a band!
