If you thought you understood American(USA) politics, think again. This is a humorous look at a stupid law that was actually suppose to protect the truly stupid. The ones who risk injury or death to find their daily bread.
We all see them here in the US. They sometimes have signs that say they will work for food, or something similar. Often at the sides of busy highways and ramps. Usually they are a scam, but some are really in need.
St. Petersburg wants to ban panhandlers from street medians. In other words...Get out of the busy road! If passed, the ordinance would impose fines of $50 to $500 for violations!
That sucks because now you risk getting a fine every day while trying to make the money for the first fine! If you read between the lines, like they're hoping you won't, it is basically saying that the taxpayer will flip the tab. The very residents who complained about them are going to pay for them.
Confused? Now you understand politics!
