Last Call for The Dumbest Law
November 16th 2008 00:27
I wrote previously about Nebraska's Safe Haven Law. The 'drop your unwanted kids law' has had much criticism from everyone who saw a flaw in the idea. The law was meant for infants but spiraled out of control when pre-teens and teens were dropped off. Now Nebraska is rethinking the dumb law without limits since 35 unwanted children have been dropped off!
Safe Havens seem to be yet another cop out on the topic of unwanted children. Most states with safe haven laws seem to impose an age limit. Nebraska on the other hand has no age limit. Some come from other states, because, well opportunity knocks!
This means my friend can drop her son off at a Nebraska Safe Haven if she hurries. He is 40 and still lives with mom!
