Foreseen Celebration Tragedy
November 7th 2008 23:51
I totally respect and congratulate our President-elect Barack Obama and will stand behind him regardless if I disagree or agree. That is not to say that I won't speak my mind when I disagree with him. He is, after all, the new symbol of the Free World.
Having said that, this entry has to do with a promotional stunt for the President that has gone awry. The shear brilliance of giving a free alcohol drink to everyone for each State Barack Obama wins, has obvious results. Here is the premise:
The party's planners had promised free drinks to patrons for every state the democratic Presidential candidate won during Tuesday’s election. The promoter paid for the rounds of drinks.
That's too many drinks! So when a bouncer ejects a drunk patron, he shoots him! Needless to say the partying got very out of hand. There were over 300 people after 10 pm.
You would think that promoters would know that free drink promotions are prohibited. The bar was cited for offering the drinks.
My guess is that the promoters were some radio station cronies who underestimated the power of word of mouth. I'm sure McCain and Nader supporters were among the free drinkers. Who would refuse a free drink? Who would refuse over 20 free drinks? 30?
This Obama phenomenom has not yet really sunk in. We are over zealous to celebrate something that may help the United States of America.
