Continued Shunning At The R&R HoF...The Story Of Rush!
January 9th 2007 21:40
Sometimes I may go overboard on a story because I read so many links about it that the link I post may not coincide with what I've written. Take the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's inductees this year that included Van Halen. The link gives more to the story and my last entry. From the link...So far, many people have expressed disappointment over the inductees. Famous progressive bands such as Rush and Yes aren’t included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but they should be.
Yes they should be! Now I think Yes and others are great bands and most have had a great influence on my musical tastes. Led Zeppelin perhaps had the greatest influence and I still regard them as The Greatest Band Ever! Through it all, there is one band that still influences me today. That band is Rush! Although Rush has won many awards, the Hall remains closed, and some view it as a joke. Even with over 200,000 signatures on a petition, Rush is still shunned.
I could get into the whole ordeal of who actually runs The HoF and why it is such a sham, but it still serves a purpose. To record the History of Rock and Roll. Not rap, crap or Pop! The Hall is run by Rolling Stone Magazine, MTV, and VH-1 among others. Years ago there was a Rolling Stone magazine boycott. Someone from the magazine in charge at The Hall declared that Rush will NEVER see The Hall as long as he has a say. I'm not quoting, but you get the jest.
An artist is eligible for induction into The Hall 25 years after the release of the first album. Rush has been eligible since 1999. I often think biographies are more fictional than real. The thing about Rush's biography is that it paves the way to understanding the executive's statement about The Hall and why they are shunned. Rush had encountered problems and ticked off the Mega Music Industry. The first time a radio station took a chance and played them on the air in the US, everyone thought it was a B side to a Zeppelin album!
If you visit The Hall in Cleveland, Ohio, you'll find exhibits by every known artist including Rush. Seeing that I like Rush this may not be my last entry on them. I will also write about other influences and what I listen to now! The Inductees can be viewed here! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site.
