The Politics Of Oz

June 19th 2008 00:55
Remeber the Wizard of Oz when the great and powerful Wizard was discovered? He was nothing more than a feeble old man behind a curtain that made himself look more powerful than he was with special effects. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain", he proclaimed when his act was discovered. That is the basic premise of politics.

Who barks the loudest and intimidates? Who can't see the forest beyond the trees? Politics are dirty and parties are just barriers to divide and conquer. Sometimes people become such fanatics about their political agendas that they do what they accuse others of doing. Mud slinging is a part of politics and the more money a candidate has, the better the PR to protect the image of said candidate.

I don't discuss my political views because I am neutral. I work in a branch of government so I know pretty much how things work. I worked under various parties and there is no different in how they work. Having said that, in my voting history as an American citizen, I have voted for various parties. I don't look at the parties, I look at individual candidates. I also may disagree with issues of even those I vote for. That is my freedom as an American. I am not persuaded by anyone and have the right to change my mind.

When I discuss politics with fellow Americans sometimes we disagree. Rarely will we change our views, but sometimes there are things we agree on. Truth be told, a truly informed voter is not narrow minded and does not only read party literature that agrees with their ideology. Sometimes you have to research and check things out for yourself because politics are dirty and are not what they seem.

In the late 70s I attended an American Institution of Higher Learning, or a University as we call it. One course I took was American history and it was there that I learned an unforgiving truth about the great United States political system...

...I lived in a Republic nation in Europe and noticed that the only difference with the US's political system was that they didn't vote for a President...

...and to the Republic for which it stands...is a verse of the Pledge of Allegiance which is more controversial over the word GOD than anything else! Although MOST US presidents have won by popular vote, it is the Electoral College that elects the President and Vice President. Theoretically, in American history I learned that The College can cast their electoral votes on the candidate that didn't win the 'popular' vote!

Confused? Now you truly understand politics worldwide.

I once learned that I knew nothing about British politics. The Brit who taught me had no idea about American politics. Foreign propaganda is just that...PROPAGANDA. In the US we call it PR. Sometimes people world-wide are hypocrites, but none the less 'know-it-all'!

So after all this intro dribble, we come to my story. Before I begin I have to say that views are different and instead of focusing on one particular aspect, with me you have to inspect the whole thing, not just what you agree or disagree with. Perhaps you read my entries about Al "The Bore" Gore and how I don't agree with him and blah, blah, blah, etc.(To think I voted for him in 2000!) But I wish he had run this year for pres. All the others were LOSERS! Republicans, Democrats, how do I put this...They SUCKED! Billary, Obama, McCain, Huckleberry Hound, Mitt, whoever. I didn't like any of them!!!

But being a 'good' American, I have to vote. I was debating on lewaving it blank, or procrastinating until the polls clothes. Having known Hillary, I'd never vote for her. She has done N-O-T-H-I-N-G for New York! In the US she is known as a "carpet bagger" because she ran for senator in NY and she is from Arkanasas. She finally pulled out after a few major fiascos. And I will never vote for her.

McCain, perhaps. I was leaning towards him. I really didn't care for him because of his political views. Obama and McCain now seems like the November candidates. I didn't care for Obama because his ideology doesn't agree with mine. This blog entry touches many topics about political topics. Many will focus on one aspect rather than the entire spectrum.

At this point(repeat those three words because the future may or may NOT change) I am leaning toward Obama. Perhaps I should explain why. He has taken a Bill Cosby approach and asked that men take responsiblity for their children, in particular African-American men. As an American voter this is an issue that is of interest to me. After all we don't want ANY president to play favorites to any one in particular.

What will definitely make me vote for Obama is the way he handles this new issue. I don't want to hear about the offended party backing off as it may be interpreted as a *wink* pay-off! The 'right-wing conspiracy' that produced rumors against the saint Clintons allegedly claims Obama to be a Muslim. He has vigorously denied these 'rumors'! So this will prove very interesting.

For the spin doctors who twist words...I have no problem with Muslims but don't wish to be deceived by a candidate. I have a decision to make and will not be persuaded by public opinion. If Obama is a Muslim that is not a reason to not vote for him. If he lies about it that IS a reason NOT to vote for him!
