Politics and religion seem to incite heated debates because most people have strong beliefs on the topics. In the United Kingdom, children as young as 5 will soon be taught lessons about obscure religions such as those that believe humans should be eaten by vultures. If you can't come to a compromise about creation and evolution, the next step is to point out everybody's beliefs including atheists.
Even the US Air Force Academy is adding an outdoor circle for the earth religions such as Wiccan. I'm surprised they haven't erected an altar for human sacrifices to appease the Satanists!
